Description
“See you later alligator!” My Dad says. “After while crocodile” My son replies back. Both of them waving their hand under their chin. My Dad has been doing this little wave goodbye for as long as I can remember and he has now taught my son to do it. And it is the cutest thing.
This little interaction between them was the initial spark of inspiration for my latest painting, Later Gator. This piece was ment to be a fun, bright, and quirky painting. I typically start my painting days listening to news podcasts – I’m sure I’m not the only one here to think this, but man are things uhhh.. unprecedented?? I DO know that it’s unprecedented how much I have heard that word in the past five years. I honestly don’t know if it is because I am older now or with social media news just travels around so fast or was my head just in the sand growing up? Anyways, life just seems weirder. Scarier.
As I paint and stare at this painting, it’s like I am saying see ya later to so much…
See ya later to summer. How is it that every summer seem shorter than the last.
See ya later to my baby. Gosh how quickly he is growing up.
See ya later to a normal world. I mean really, what’s next??
See ya later to knowing what’s real. Pictures… the news… emails… AHHHH I’m questioning everything!!
See ya later to my youth. Why did I just grunt getting up from the floor and hobble down those stairs?? Oh right.
Well, if you’re anything like me, it never does any good to keep worrying about things that haven’t happened… sooo I guess I’ll try to say see ya later to all that anxiety – I’m sure it will creep back in after while. I’ll just try to focus on what’s good in this world – all those sweet everyday moments.
